Windows 11 Optimization Guide

After the standard installation of Windows 11, you'll be signed in to your Microsoft Account, giving you control over your experience within the operating system. To review the operating system version, follow these steps:

Search >> System Information

Within the top line, you will find the operating system and version you are running.

While this tutorial provides an overview of Windows 11 optimization steps, it's essential to note that it's focused on Windows 11 Professional Licensing. This falls within the Windows Licensing structure, which includes three broad tiers of services:

Home

Professional

Workstation

To simplify, we'll focus on features common to all three service levels.

Steps for Optimization
1. Name Your Computer
By default, Windows 11 names your computer as DESKTOP-#######, with a capitalized “DESKTOP” followed by a hyphen and a randomized combination of letters and numbers. To rename your computer manually:

Search >> View your PC name

2. Activation
Some may find working on a Windows desktop with an activation watermark uncomfortable. It's beneficial to activate your version of Windows 11 with a legal and non-pirated license. Activation unlocks the remaining functionality, such as changing the Windows desktop screensaver and customizing the appearance of the taskbar and color palettes. Follow these steps:

Search >> Activation settings

3. Defragment
Defragmentation is often overlooked but crucial. It helps optimize your hardware by consolidating scattered files, which improves load times for applications like web browsers. To defragment your drives:

Search >> Defragment and Optimize Drives

Navigate to the tool Optimize Drives and consolidate your files to increase performance.

4. Processor Core Selection
Improve your Windows machine’s performance by configuring the number of processors:

Search >> System Configuration

Click the Boot tab and then Advanced options. Select the Number of processors checkbox and configure the total number of processors you want to use.

5. Page Files
Optimize your virtual memory by letting it be “System managed”:

Search >> Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows

Navigate to the Advanced tab. Within the "Virtual memory" section, click Change. Ensure the Automatically manage paging file size for all drives checkbox is selected. Page files store frequently used files in convenient places for quick access.

Troubleshooting Internet Service Provider (ISP) Router

In this passage, I'm sharing a thought process or decision tree where I find a resolution of re-establishing internet service with my contracted ISP.

Proceed at the resident's own risk:
Now I'm experienced in simple IT problem-solving and troubleshooting. I don't know about all landlords or apartment units or claim to have experience working with all ISP info structures or networking. The steps I outline below will bring back a resident's internet service online.

How I got my ISP service restored by doing the following:

  1. Attempted to connect to my residence's router. Where I established a connection and noticed I lacked off internet connection.
  2. On the same device. I disconnected from my unit's WIFI network. Then "forgot" or "removed" that WIFI network.
  3. Proceeded with reconnecting to my unit's WIFI network. (If you still lack internet service, continue past step 3.)
  4. Turn off or power off the device.
  5. Turn on or power on that same device.
  6. Reconnect to your unit's WIFI network. (If you still lack internet service, continue past step 6.)
  7. Physically locate your unit or residence router.
  8. Arrive at the shelter's router.
  9. With the router in hand. Orient the router to the rear panel, where you notice a red button or reset switch. Press and hold that button for approximately 30 to 60 seconds. Or when the front panel lights start to change colors. Then, move your finger off the red button. Now we wait until the lights turn green again. (If you still lack internet service, continue past step 9.)
  10. Within the Media Panel, locate the outlet. Unplug all devices connect to that outlet. Wait 60 seconds. Plug all devices back into the outlet. (If you still lack internet service, continue past step 10.)
    1. Note: Step 10 is where I frequently arrive at a resolution and restore my unit's internet service.
If the tenant still has internet connectivity issues. I recommend they call the ISP support line. They can google for the phone number or call their ISP's contact information. Then proceed to troubleshoot your specific circumstances with the appropriate guidance of the support employee.

As the reader, I hope you gleaned more helpful and insightful knowledge.
